Hustle #4-Studio 629

“Throws big statements out and now has to meet her goals”. This could be my headline for the next decade, and I’m ok with it. I like (love) the hustle. It fuels me and when I find myself daydreaming even for a second for some downtime within moments I’m dreaming up my next venture. I titled this Hustle #4 because my first gig is, of course, Happy Medium, my second is the influencer work and revenue I’m generating between the Des Moines Moms group and my Instagram + this Blog, and the third is the community I’m building with The Maia Group entrepreneurs. In working towards one of my goals to be able to retire by 50 (which you can read about here), I knew I needed to start working a lot of my current costs backward. I reviewed my current spending and ideated ways I could pay for certain things with new revenue streams, giving myself a goal to net $0 in recurring spending each month. Obviously (or maybe not for everyone) my largest expense is my mortgage payment. My home is beautiful, and I truly love it. It was built in 1916 and has so much character, yet is updated structurally and modernized from a design standpoint. Interestingly in 1916 when it was built, the upstairs of my home was an entirely different living quarters. Sometime in the mid-1990s, the homeowners of the time started using both spaces. Very luckily though, the upstairs is still a giant open space with its own entrance from the outside of the house. The idea to use this space for revenue opportunities isn’t a new one for me after living here for 6 years. However, as with most things, timing and hustle are everything. With so many companies going fully remote, I have seen a significant uptick in the need for a meeting, collaboration, and retreat gathering space. In reviewing my next hustle I was going to create as I work towards this very big goal, this seemed like an obvious one. I began over the last several months working on ideating what would make this space truly wonderful for those that spend time in it. I wanted a flexible, yet beautiful, space and a hybrid of office tools and resources while providing the homey feel so many of us have come to love in our workdays now. As I discussed the idea with my family, Brig was all for it when he learned this new space would come with a second TV being in our house. He also loves a good side hustle. He’s very fun to build up dream businesses with and already very much has an entrepreneurial spirit. Cal said “sure mom!” which I took as a definite yes. With that, I am excited to say Studio 629 has been born. I’ve done research with friends who plan meetings and events for a living to ensure the experience in this space will be the best in class. Enjoy some photos of the space - I’m excited to keep you in the loop of how it’s going! As always, I appreciate the cheers and support I always feel when launching something new. Goals below, and I’m committed to reporting back on how my progress. If you know of anyone who may be a fit for this space, there’s more information here, thank you so much for sharing!

Business Goal with Hustle #4: To rent my space enough each week to cover my monthly mortgage (with escrow).

Designing this space was equally fun. My top priority was to create a serenely beautiful yet functional space. I truly enjoyed choosing each piece and am looking forward to continuing to build on this space. I used a mix of brands, but leaned heavily on influence from Serena and Lily, one of my favorites!
