MAIA - Earth friendly edition - #2 🌎
We’re a week into working on growing in our sustainability efforts and I’m already feeling much better for the turtles. This week I want to talk about some of the items I’ve been using a long time. I wish I would have added up all of the plastic bags I’ve saved, but maybe I’ll start now to really feel good about my efforts. (probably not though, that seems like a lot of math)
I talked with Brig this week about these changes we’re making and why. It’s estimated if someone shops for 70 years (from 18 years old until they are 88 years old), they will save 350,000 bags. That is wild. Think if we all commit to small changes in just a few ways our major impact to a much more sustained planet for future generations. Here’s a few items I use daily (and obviously pat myself on the back for doing so as you should too).
REUSABLE BAGS
Mesh vintage looking bright colored bags? Count me in! I absolutely love these, and if you’re anything like me and your things randomly go missing having a full set will be a good fit. I keep some in my car, and a few hanging in the locker system we have so we can always remember to grab one as we’re headed to run errands or to the farmers market!
With summer approaching, you may need a larger carryall (read: for carrying allllll of your children’s things) This one lets you live your best mom life, and also do it with some class. This one also makes me feel like I’m fresh off the farmers market, even when in reality I’m fresh off running between baseball drop offs and chess tournaments.
REUSABLE COTTON PADS
Hands down one of my favorite swaps I’ve made in favor of reducing waste. Several years ago my sister told me about these and I’ve loved them ever since. I use these daily with my makeup removal routine. They are wonderful reusable cotton pads. I also personally think these are much softer than traditional cotton pads for my skin. They come with a small mesh bag, so throughout the week when I’m using them I will put them in the bag once I’m finished then just toss the entire bag in the laundry for a fresh start the next week! So easy, and so impactful!
SHAMPOO BAR
Shampoo bars are new to me. When I asked everyone to share what they are doing in their homes and reducing their carbon footprint many of you said using Shampoo bars! I will fully admit I have never tried these, but it’s ordered and I will report back. However, if I’m giving out trophies for branding on this packaging they are already getting an A+, it’s adorable and I am confident when I shower I’ll feel like I’m in Hawaii, which is important to me because I am most definitely not going to be in actual Hawaii anytime soon.
